Mathematician and science communicator Marcus du Sautoy began his talk with the story of Evariste Galois, a Paris revolutionary who died in his brother's arms. The night before, Galois had stayed up all night trying to explain his mathematical ideas before his duel the next day. He was trying to explain symmetry.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass, they see face to face; and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal.
William Penn, More Fruits of Solitude
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Nou die woorde spreek my ongelooflik sterk aan, vir 2 rede, een is dat ek nou "A book of silence" lees, Sarah Maitland bespreek die gebruik van woord "solitude"... Die ander rede sal dit kan verstaan...

Amphibians around the world synchronise their mating activity by the full Moon, researchers have discovered.
This global phenomenon has never been noticed before, but frogs, toads and newts all like to mate by moonlight.
The animals use the lunar cycle to co-ordinate their gatherings, ensuring that enough males and females come together at the same time.

http://www.physorg.com/news166207506.html

#R;
#R;
So ek kerf klippe in stilte

I was listening to the words... and realised that it mentions the moon!!! fancy that! So only known some latin by osmosis... I got the english translation!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
O Fortune,
like the moon
Stands constantly changing,
ever waxing
or waning;
hateful life
now oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice.
Fate - monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel
,stand malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game,
my bare back
I bring to your villainy.
Fate, in health
and in virtue,
is now against me
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating string;
since through Fate
strikes down the strong,
everyone weep with me!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
These guys who wrote "Carmina Burana" seem to have been the rockers of the past!!! Awesome stuff!!
So I keep look at the moon and remembering...

This going to be on BBC Radio4 on the 7th of July...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lg9y0
Morris was influenced by Islamic ideas of what art should be and led to his famous advice to "have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful".
Morris loved designs drawing on the natural world, the use of repetition and symmetry and he believed everyday objects should be beautiful. He espoused the philosophy that art should be affordable and hand-made – this was already a reality in the Islamic world. Not stopping at arts and crafts, he was a passionate advocate of social utopianism and believed in the rights of the worker.
This all reminds me of Hell's passage, the Turf, my true love, and Jane Burden aka (Jane Morris) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Burden a remarkable storys BOTH of them!

The moon seems to be becoming a metaphor in my life...
I also discovered the beauty of the moon...
I discovered my true love still loves me...
I discovered my fascination with the reflective qualitities of the moon was shared in the Japanese and Chinese cultures hundreds of years ago...
The moon governs one of our cosmic clocks here on earth, a rhythm that is of great importance to my other love in life, the sea and surf...
The "moon and water" also features a lot in Zen, which is something I have been interested in for over 30 years...
In Yoshtoshi's 100 aspects of the moon this one is my favourite
http://www.artelino.com/articles/yoshitoshi-moon-daimotsu-benkei.asp
From an earthly perspective, the moon changes over time... it reflects the sun, like our mind reflects reality, it provides a faint, colour drained light similar to how our mind filters reality...
